The Energy Problem that is an Indispensable Item of Modern Life

Upon entering the 21st century, the world consumed energy that is equivalent of 8.8 billion ton oil annually. Of this consumption, approximately 40% is obtained from oil, 25% is obtained from coal, 24,7% is obtained from natural gas, 7,6% was obtained from nuclear sources and 2,6% was obtained from hydroelectric. Briefly, the world spends 3.422 Billion dollar (three trillion four hundred twenty two billion dollars) annually for energy consumption. If we do not consider hydroelectric energy, the world consumes expensive and dirty energy for the energy production it requires each year from unnatural ways and damages the ecological balance. It is obvious that, if alternatives are not produced in a short time, the future years would bear energy related wars just like the situation in Iraq even if pretended to be due to other reasons, the human kind would turn the balances of nature upside down and destroy its living space without noticing it.

Turkey's energy problem:

Electric energy consumption increased 6,4% in 2004 in comparison with the previous year and reached to 150 billion KWh. The number in 2005 is 160 billion KWh and consumption per capita has been realized as 2214 KWh. It is estimated that consumption will be 175 billion KWh in 2006. It is estimated that in Turkey, general energy demand shall be equivalent of 125.6 million barrel in 2010 and in 2020, it would increase to 222.3 million barrel oil equivalent. According to estimates, electric energy demand shall reach to 242 billion KWh in 2010 and 499 billion KWh in 2020 according to the higher scenario. According to low scenario, consumption will reach 216 billion KWh in 2010 and 406 billion KWh in 2020.

Electric:

Annual Electric Consumption:

175.000.000.000 KWH (one hundred five billion)

Current Installed Power:

We have power plants for 38.762 Megawatt

Power that must be added within the next 10 years

51.000 Megawatt

Investment amount that must be made:

Annual average 5,1 Billion dollars

Required energy investment:

100 billion dollars must be spent.

Natural Gas;

Natural Gas Purchase:

Annually 31,5 billion m3 gas is purchased

Natural Gas Consumption:

Of 31,5 billion gas, approximately 50% is consumed at power plants, 10% is consumed at industry and 40% is consumed at residences.

Cost of Natural Gas:

Average cost of 100m3 is USD240-260 that makes USD 7.500.000.000 per year. (seven billion five hundred $)

Scholars have been warning us for decades "Ecological balance is being damaged, global warming is on our doorstep, and we are preparing the end of the world with our own hands". People are finally gaining consciousness about this warning. Particularly during recent months, the press mentions almost daily about disasters that result from global warming, natural events that happens because of disruption of the world balance, weather changes, quakes, floods, typhoons, hot and cold weather waves outside of seasonal normal values.

The most affective solution against global warming is, instead of dirty energy that makes great contributions to poisoning nature, turning world's ecological and economical balances upside down, causing economic superiority or weakness of countries promptly activating cheaper, cleaner energy sources that could meet energy requirement of human beings applications and projects that would ensure economical consumption of currently utilized energy and savings to a large extend.
